Here is the first post of my new blog.
In the past, I've blogged about writing fiction and I've blogged with my photos. With this blog, I'll share my musings about my photos, making art with digital photography, and the choices I'm making with my photography practice. It might be that I also ramble on about how Life intersects with or interrupts my photography. And maybe I'll tell a story or two along the way...
The photo I'm sharing on this inaugural post was taken in 2012 at the Dun Robin Castle garden in Scotland. There was a grouping of these flowers in the garden, surrounded by hundreds of flowers of all shapes and colors. These purple orbs stood out because the sunlight haloed the flowers just so. They begged to be photographed.
As a green photographer and even greener editor, I didn't have the experience to capture the beauty. The photo out of the camera was hazy with backlit sunlight and the focus was soft. Given our travel plans, I wouldn't be able to get back to Dun Robin Castle for another try.
All this to say...I had to live with the photo I took. Not horrible, as it helped me remember a great time with my friends and family at the castle. Even with the its flaws, I loved the photo and added it as one of my desktop wallpaper photos.
Then...earlier this week, looking over my photo catalog, I came across the original photo and decided to give it another edit. With the power of modern editing tools and a few years of practice, I was able to bring out the details of the petals, removed the haze from the sunlight, and made this allium flower the sole focus by cropping in tighter. I'm definitely happier with this version.
Time to close out my first musing. Until next time...wishing you some moments of beauty to enjoy.
